I visited this campground for the first time in early November 2025. If you have a trailer or a large rig, I would not drive the very rough, originally paved, one lane road up here. The campground loops are narrow with some very tight turns. One was pretty tight for my long wheelbase Sprinter. I like this place and I will gladly return, but understand what you’re getting in to. There’s a big parking lot/trailhead just up the hill from the ranger station; I’ve stayed there for free before. If you have a big rig, I’d park at the trailhead, or at one of the campgrounds up on Mount Pinos. Chuchupate campground is very pretty.

I personally did not like this campground. The 2 mile road up to it was extremely rough! Lots of very deep potholes and bumps. It is a primitive campground with vault toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. But there was no water and, most importantly, no cell service! As a solo female traveler I did not feel comfortable staying here. I went up the road to McGill Campground and I’m glad I did!

Great primitive campground at the base of Frasier Mountain. Unknown if my 34 foot Class A will make the road in but there is a flat parking lot near the ranger station they let us camp in as long as you are self contained and dont spread out all over. Close to trails and 8500 ft peak. Dry with vault toilets.
