We stayed in this area for three nights in March 2026. There are dozens of sites for miles on both sides of the road with many spur roads also. Most sites are pretty level. We arrived on a Saturday and most sites were occupied, however, many left on Sunday and we moved to another site. Recommend trying to get site away from 545 because traffic makes it dusty. It appears there is some kind of aggregate extraction going on up 545 which means big dump trucks going by frequently on week days.

9/18/21 Arrived before dark on a Saturday evening, and there was a steady stream of traffic, with some reckless drivers. After dark it was quiet. There are several spots within first 1/2 mile but they were either occupied or had drainage ditches too deep to drive our trailer over to get into/out of. I did find one spot though, and backed in the trailer between the trees with only 6 inches to spare on either side, and get truck and trailer off the road. Had to bury a dead skunk on the site, and clean up trash. But, it was a free spot in the pines and very happy to have it! Another truck/trailer came down the road after us but left the area, apparently they didn't find anything suitable.

I love these free forest campgrounds! We are towing a 25’ cabin cruiser behind an extended cab F150. Found a spot about 1/4-1/2 mile in off SR89. Since it’s a gravel road dust is to be expected! However most driving by respected the appropriate speeds and with no wind dust pretty much settled on the road. While the spot we chose isn’t real level, it’s a forest floor. If you want level, pay for an RV Park! The scenery and environment makes for a peaceful retreat from the day’s drive. We are here on a Monday evening which may make a difference in how many in the area camping.

From the turnoff on on 89 we went about a 1/2 miles in both directions and did not find a good spot for more than an overnighted. I understand that in either direction there are meadows for camping. I feel that it may be dangerous to stay long because of the dust and the right turn seems to have the gravel trucks. At times the dust look like fog for several hundred feet. It is thinly forested and groomed, so little privacy.

We turned on to Forest Road 545 and found lots of varying size spots to camp along FR 545 and further in on FR 552 and FR 418. We camped with a 30' travel trailer and found several spots that would accommodate us. Our first spot was closer to the gravel road and it was during the Museum Fire so I'm not sure if that was the reason but there were large trucks going up and down the road kicking up lots of dust on FR 545. We moved to a better spot on FR 418 and enjoyed the peace and quiet there. We had good Verizon service in the second spot on FR 418. We stayed on a Wed & Thurs night so not many people out there. We will stay there again.

I would not recommend this for large motorhomes. We stayed here years ago in a 32 foot class A. We only found one spot that was not too rough or too steep, but still had to use lot of boards to level.

9-2016 I have a 30' class A home and I didn't find any where to park it . There is a horse camp closer to town but you can't stay unless you have a horse. I would not recommend this location for a motorhome.
