Spent 3 nights here, Fri-Sat-Sun in late April 2025. I exited I17 NB at exit 256 in my 30-foot Class A, no toad, and upon turning right off exit ramp, Badger Springs Rd takes you immediately into the BLM main gravel lot. I believe the sign stating this is not a rest area is intended to warn off truckers from filing the lot up in the evening as they often do in gravel lots right off of Interstate exits...this is definitely BLM 14-day land. Badger Springs Rd is a gravel/dirt somewhat narrow road that continues on past the entrance lot. I was coming in somewhat late in the afternoon so about a tenth mile down when a nice, flat site at the top of a rise, clean and nicely encircled with large boulders appeared on the right, I climbed the red dirt hill, bottoming out just a wee bit, and situated myself fairly level within the roomy circular pad. The site itself is very scenic, up high overlooking some mesas and canyons. There are many decorative shrubs between and around the giant boulders that outline the spot. The temps in the area were in the mid and upper 80s during my stay but in this high site there is a constant, non-obnoxious breeze that you can open your doors and windows to, making it very pleasant. Beyond this spot it appears that the road continues on for about a mile with pit restrooms halfway down and a loop at the end, in the middle of which there appears to be 2 or 3 small sites. Beyond that it appears on Google Earth to get a bit dicey with no real turn around opportunities...may be good for vans, tenters or truck campers. I didn't take my rig down the road largely because satellite images show few spots for large rigs and i could see from my location that the road falls away to deep washes and ditches on both sides. 3 stars for access, the presence of high tension power towers and a substation in the entry lot, plus where I was there IS constant I17 traffic noise. A little work would make this a jewel, but it's nice for a short stay as-is.

We exited off of “Badger Road” and headed East on an evening in July to spend the night at Agua Fria National Monument BLM land. Right off of the exit there is a HUGE gravel lot. It has a sign that says “Not a rest area,” which confused us a bit as there is also a large bulletin board that says “Camping Allowed up to 14 days.” See the attached image for those details. We did see one truck stop in the large lot late at night and they left early the next morning - so I’m assuming that spot is OK to stay in. If you follow the road past this sign, there are quite a few small dispersed camping sights around. We have a 35ft fifth wheel, and we drove down this road a bit, and found a large spot on the right side (we had to drive up quite a steep, dirt hill to get there). I wouldn’t recommend driving down this road with anything bigger than our rig - it’s very tight and hilly, and this is the only spot a rig our size would even fit in. There are quite a few other spots that a tent could easily fit throughout this road. Being July, it was HOT - we had our generator running all night - once the sun went down it wasn’t too bad. The next morning we drove down the road without our rig, and took a little walk down “Badger Spring Trailhead,” which we were super surprised to find a small running creek. Our kids had a ton of fun playing in this spot, and quite a few other hikers passed us. Overall, this is a nice spot to stop overnight - and we may even come back for a weekend visit to play more at this creek!! Pretty views and easy to access.
