As others have said, there are a LOT of flies so bring a flyswatter and don't leave your doors open for long. Otherwise a nice place. Smoother closer to the pavement. Starts getting rockier the closer you get to the mountain. Directions will take you on secondary roads, one with dirt and gravel. Go to exit 95 (I think) off I-10, 411th Street at Tonopah. It keeps you on paved roads.

We traveled here in a 38’ DP with toad 12/3/2023. Very easy to access with many pullouts available, most with fire pits and very little trash. The sunsets and sunrises were beautiful. The only drawback was prolific flies outside and then inside.

Not for us! So many good reviews on this BLM. We stayed one night in mid October and didn’t like it. It was our fault because it was quite warm. Tried to sit outside and way too many flies! Then in the evening we were inside our trailer with all the windows open and the light on and tons of small flying ants came through the screens ! No good!! We travel back and forth a lot from the Phoenix area to So Cal and we love staying at the BLM area outside Joshua Tree, but we will not stay at this location again.

agree with previous reviews. There are several entrances to the BLM land and Closer to the mountain the rougher the roads. Bring fly swatted- the quiet and beauty out weigh the problems. NOTE: if driving east, exit 81 will direct you on washboard dirt roads for several miles. I now drive out of my way to exit 95 to use paved roads to avoid jarring and grit of dirt. It’s worth it for me since I have a choice.

We were planning to go to Quartzsite, but a fellow camper suggested we check out Saddle Mountain. We were so glad we did! spent 5 nights first of February 2022 and truly enjoyed our stay. We liked being able to leave the camper and do some “free range” hiking. There is one actual marked trail (Saddle Mountain Trail) which was amazing. As others noted, we noticed a bad aroma in the air but only a couple days and the flies were pretty bad as well. Thankfully, with a little wind they were tolerable. Eating outside was not a possibility because of the flies. There were very few campers around while we were there. Roads were rough, but we managed with our 28’ pull behind. We pulled in a ways and then continued on foot to pick out a place to camp.

Beautiful area with mountain view’s, easy access. Great Verizon phone service. Only Negative was there were a lot of flies. Camped here several times and flies aren’t always an issue. Nice distance from next campers.

Very first experience in our RV was close to home. Me, the Mrs. and our two little dogs. Still getting to our new to us Class C. But this area is nice, folks spread out pretty nicely. Only really scratched the surface of this place. Really nice views, not noisy, could hear our neighbors generator in the distance, but was far enough away it was just barely back ground noise. First experience for the two dogs as well. I checked the area out before letting them out, was pretty clean, no broken glass, no jumping cactus to get in their paws, etc. We stayed one night just getting used to things, but pretty darn fun.

Nice spot, I have stayed here several times. This year, the dirt road into the area has a higher center. Low clearance vehicles will need to drive to the side to avoid high centering.

This was our first dispersed camping and it will not be our last! There were multiple RVs along the road in various sites but all sites were spread far apart making it feel like you had the place to yourself. I can see why the place was so popular. You can drive right up to the base of the mountain and while you can see the distant highway from the hill, you cannot hear it. The road was in pretty good condition making it accessible for all rigs. We towed a 26’ airstream in no issue and there were some large class As and fifth wheels as well. We stayed for an overnight enroute to our destination and wish we could have stayed longer. This place makes for a great overnight or weekend stop.
