We were about 10 miles away from the Fort Collins KOA (where we had a reservation) when our motorhome decided it didn't want to run anymore. It was getting late, and we ended up being towed to the campground. While we were waiting for the tow service to arrive I called the KOA and explained our situation, and asked if we'd be able to get into our pull thru site with a 40' tow truck towing us. They said it should work. By the time we arrived to the campground it was around midnite, and when we were pulling up to the gate a man met us there, and led us to our site. It was going to be a tight fit getting us in, and the man said we could go to an empty site further down the row that had a lot more room for the driver to turn into the site. The man helped the driver get us into a good position on the site, and asked us how long we thought it would be until we'd be repaired. I said hopefully that we'd be fixed the next day, but it would depend on how quickly I could find a mobile mechanic to come figure out what was wrong. He said no problem, and said that they were booked full for the weekend, but that they'd figure something out if we were still there, and to just check in with the office in the morning. I was not quite sure who this gentleman was, and thought he might be a security guard. When I asked him if he stayed out at the entrance all night he said 'no', and told me that he was one of the owners. I was absolutely floored that he met us at the gate and took care of us the way he did. He was very nice and extremely accommodating to us in our situation.
As far as the campground goes, it was one of the nicest KOAs we've stayed at, and certainly had the most activities for kids and families to enjoy then any other campground we've been to. I can't say enough good things about this KOA and the staff. We had nothing but a very positive experience, and an enjoyable time while we stayed there being repaired. Our kids wanted to stay another day because they were having so much fun! We did get our rig fixed the next day and were back on the road before the weekend. While the cost of staying here may seem high, when you consider all the activities that are available for guests during their stay then it actually seems very reasonable. We will definitely stay here again when we find ourselves in the area!!!

This is the place for families! So many activities, lake, paddle boats, peddle cars, bouncy castle and more. Spaces are nice sized. Internet weak. Super friendly staff. Our family loved it and we will be back!

Owner has violent temper, food safety Marginal
As full-time RVers, we have never experienced anything even remotely close to the degree of menacing behavior that the senior owner of Lakeside KOA inflicted upon my wife. She was simply asking why our guests were charged $26.00 for two toddlers to play on the playground. His response was hostile and threatening. He shouted insults at her as he followed closely behind her as she retreated from the office.
I recommend that women do not enter campground office alone if senior owner is present. Travelers and guests with young children should consult the State of Colorado, Bureau of Investigation web site (http://www.colorado.gov/apps/cdps/soma/ regarding multiple convicted sex offenders who reside in the immediate vicinity of KOA/Lakeside. The campground's main entrance is only guarded part-time
The campground food service cart is located at the campground's former sewage dump station. During the latest inspection (2012), the Larimer County Health Department (http://www.larimer.org/food/) rated food safety at the KOA/Lakeside as Marginal.
The south-side of the Lakeside KOA campground is near an active asphalt plant and gravel quarries, with industrial noise/odors and heavy truck traffic commencing at dawn. I woke one morning to the pounding roar of a low-flying helicopter spraying insecticides on the corn field just 25 feet from our north-side camp site.
The Better Business Bureau (http://wynco.bbb.org/)has downgraded its rating of the KOA/Lakeside to C because the owners have failed to respond to customer complaints, and KOA/Lakeside is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. The Lakeside KOA has disabled the online review feature on their corporate KOA website.
The east-side of the campground is near marshy area with stagnant water, and mosquitos can be thick. Interior roadways are not paved. Well water has a brown tint. There are occasional brown-outs during hot weather and power failures during electrical storms. Verizon coverage is weak.
