For Rest Stop: I am revising my rating and review of this rest area that I posted yesterday, based on personal observations at this rest area when I again visited today. Specifically, the RV Dump is in poorer condition than I realized. The rinse (nonpotable) water doesn’t work at the dump site (valve is broken in “off”). As a result, dump users are putting their hoses on a nearby faucet intended to be the fresh (potable) water supply and using fresh water from that faucet to rinse their waste tanks, unclog their toilets or waste plumbing etc. Having a background in water supply and water systems construction and management, both wastewater and freshwater, I think this is an unacceptable health risk and a clear failure of the company contracted by the state to manage this rest area, to protect the public from possible contamination of the rest area fresh water system. I intend to report this condition to the state but at this time no one should get freshwater from the faucet at the dump site. If you must fill your freshwater tank, get water from the faucet in the drinking fountain pedestal in the auto parking area, as I suggested in my prior review.

For Rest Stop: RV DUMP: The dump site is only accessible while leaving the rest area to return to the westbound highway. There is rinse (nonpotable) water at the dump site. There is a concrete curb around the dump site, but the top of curb adjacent to the travel lane is flush with the surrounding pavement, so even the lowest clearance gravity dump outlet will not be an issue. There is fresh (potable) water about 20 feet ahead (west) of the dump site. The faucet is threaded, so a hose can be attached. Water pressure is low, so filling large tanks is slow. The fresh water faucet is on the cement block wall surrounding some trash containers, which is not a particularly clean looking location. An alternative fresh water faucet is in the drinking fountain pedestal at the first automobile parking spot immediately after entering the rest area. If a nearby parking space is available, that faucet appears to be a much cleaner source of water. The Pet Areas are messy, possibly partly because unlike in most California Interstate rest areas, there are no “doggie bag” dispensers anywhere. (Why don’t all pet owners think to carry their own?) Be very cautious where you and your pet step.
