High Latitude

For Denali Grizzly Bear Resort: I’ve been staying at Grizzly Bear every few years for probably the past 20 and it’s changed a lot. It’s gone from a nice little campground with some shag cabins, to more of a resort style atmosphere. Yes, lots of bus traffic, and when busy, the campsites are very tight. But there are some benefits as well. 30 amp plug ins, and water, although it’s slightly sketch well water, so I’d skip that. Onsite store has some provisions, although we were there during Memorial Day weekend (2019) and it was not stocked yet, although the gift store was full of merch. So ya, shame on them.... They do however have one of the very few onsite liquor stores.... Memorial Day weekend is also the annual Alaska Harley Group meet, so be prepared. Onsite food trucks are also pretty rare in Ak, so I consider that a benefit. They also have a couple covered gathering places. They have park WiFi but it cost money so we tethered, AT&T LTE was available. There are several bath houses with toilets through the park so that was very adequate and unusual actually. However, there is virtually nothing for kids to do, so keep that I mind. And there’s not much ‘wilderness’ experience to it either. Bottom line, I still give it 3 stars though as it is a pretty good party campground, and that’s really what it is. No kids, just meet up with some others and have a good time.

For Denali Grizzly Bear Resort: If you like dusty parking lots with a LOT of EARLY BUS traffic, rest rooms that smell like a pit toilet, & pay 2 minute showers, kids were being showered with outside showers. Long grass that had not been cut or trimmed in a long time, food trucks & smells from them in the parking lot. Sites so close you could hear from both sides. Our slide out was only a foot from the neighbor table. This was NOT for us. We paid for 2 nights, stayed only 1 night & left with on refund, was glad to leave. Will NEVER GO BACK. I don’t think they are interested in the campsite business. As they have a Lodge that does not have A/C!! And it was in the high 80’s.

Paul

For Denali Grizzly Bear Resort: Great place , about 5 miles from park entrance. Has cabins as well. Clean. Free restrooms, pay wifi and showers. Hard to use dump but we used parks. Water 30amp only.
Average cost for area. $43 night. We would come back.
