For Queen Wilhelmina State Park: It can indeed get windy up on top of Rich Mountain. It’s the 2nd highest elevation in the state at just under 2700’ and the campground and lodge are at the very top of the ridge. It can be 10 degrees or more cooler there than just a few miles away down in the valley. Nice on a hot summer day, but maybe not welcome in the spring or fall when temps can get frosty. There are trails to hike and the 192 mile Oklahoma & arkansas Ouachita Trail runs through the park. Be alert for possible interaction with a black bear as they are in the area. Nothing to be concerned about, just exercise due caution. The campground is nothing fancy and not large, but is nice and bath house was kept clean. Also the restaurant in my opinion is the best of all the lodges in the Arkansas State Parks.

For Queen Wilhelmina State Park: This park is well taken care and clean but for some reason the wind apparently howls here often even when the entire state of Arkansas is beautiful. We stayed two days. The wind was so high we pretty much stayed in the RV the whole time. What’s is hard to understand the wind was 5-10 mph only a few miles away and nearby places. Talking to residents in Mena they all commented that winds are ahead strong here. The Accommodations here are just fine but I won’t stay here again with this crazy weather pattern

For Queen Wilhelmina State Park: Very steep to get here. Winds gusted to 30 mph and you could feel 31 ft motor home move. The fog was thick all day. Have water and electric at sites. If weather is pretty you will like it once you get here.

For Queen Wilhelmina State Park: Excellent campground. Difficult to get sites during fall season. Small campground with beautiful vistas. Sites are level, with at least water and electricity, however, during our stay water required boiling before consumption. We had a nice meal at the lodge, and watched the sunset from atop the ridge in our camper. We camped in a motorhome.
