For Spider Rock Campground and RV Park: We stayed the first night at Spider Rock and the second night at Cottonwood. Cottonwood is by far the nicer of the two. Spider Rock looked run down and dogs were running loose. They were friendly dogs but after pulling into a campsite I stepped in a pile of dog poops right on our site. Then there was no one around; didn't see a toilet anywhere. Dogs barking at night woke me up. It could be nice but it needs a little work. Would not stay there again.

For Spider Rock Campground and RV Park: We had read the reviews and decided to camp here. What a treat! Howard and his dog were wonderful. Yes, the campground was primitive but lovely. We pulled a 32 ft trailer and had a pull through however it is dry camping in a beautiful setting full of pines, sage etc. Howard has water if you need it and there is a bathroom- not great. His dog greeted us daily and made sure we were settled on the first day and sat with us at our campfire. We hired Howard to give us a tour of the canyon and he was informative & good. We will definitely return to this campground.

For Spider Rock Campground and RV Park: I'm normally a tent camper, but an unexpected cold snap (freezing, snow, and I had a guest from Florida) convinced me to get one of the small hogans, with a wood stove inside (platform, mattress, too). It was fun! The campground is run by a local, Navajo man who goes by Howard; he was polite, helpful, and runs small tours into the canyon. I felt the campground had a lot of personality, plus your money goes to the local people--poverty on the reservation is heartbreaking. However, camping here is fairly primitive!! Outhouse toilets were clean and lit by small solar lights... no paving, it's all packed dirt roads. Small pinyon pines and juniper trees provide some privacy to every site, unlike the nearby NPS campground. Overall, I recommend this campground for tent campers, small RVs who don't mind the primitive setup, and people who want to support local business!! (We saw one big RV who had trouble sneaking his rig between the trees in his site.)
