For Mather Campground South Rim - Grand Canyon National Park: Great if you can get in but if you can't you can do "Dispersed Camping" off Forest Service road 328 right outside the South Gate and across from a Ranger Station. (West side of main road) go about a 1/4 mile down this gravel road and you start seeing fire rings.

For Mather Campground South Rim - Grand Canyon National Park: Stayed here in a tent for 5 days while touring the Grand Canyon. Pros: location!! there is a free shuttle stop right by the main entrance to the campground, moderate walk to a nearby strip of food and gift shops. Otherwise, the tent pad was nice, almost every site had shade, and toilets and water spigots are frequent. The reservation system lets you choose exactly where your site will be... I do recommend the reservation in summertime; I saw incoming campers waiting in line, hoping for a spot to open up. Cons: it's a huge campground, so the walk to the shower can be long. It's predictably busy and not entirely private (or quiet). I had to leave 2 days before expected, and the campground staff was very nice about refunding part of my prepaid stay.
