For Roosevelt Lake - Cholla Campground: This is a lovely campground. The hosts (Jack and Joan) were great and fun to visit with. The sites were well maintained with wonderful views of the water and good hiking trails. The reason it rates three stars is there was no water therefore no toilets or showers and the dump site was closed down. Porta potties were provided. Even so the price was still $25 a day ($12.50 with the senior pass). We were told there is a leak in the water system they haven’t been able to find. The system is 30 years old and hasn’t been maintained according to folks we spoke with. So if you don’t mind primitive camping this is the place for you! It is very quiet and peaceful here.

For Roosevelt Lake - Cholla Campground: This is a wonderful campground with very good amenities considering it does not have hookups. There are fresh water faucets scattered around the campgrounds. Flush toilets. Solar showers. Covered picnic tables. Fire rings with grate. The sites are spacious and not too crowded together. Senior pass gets you half price. There were very few campers there when we arrived although the camp host said they had just been full up from spring break and snow birds but they left by the time we got there. There is plenty of desert vegetation. We really enjoyed the variety and abundance of birds coming to our feeders. There were many quail. The stars were beautiful. No light pollution. No road noise. It is a great place but we were ready to go to a higher elevation as it was warming up. We would stay there again.

For Roosevelt Lake - Cholla Campground: Shhh! This place is one of the best kept secrets. I stopped for two nights and stayed for 12. The views and vegetation are lovely, free solar showers and restrooms are spotless and there is a great trail that circles the campground. There are no hook-ups, so this isn't for the grid-dependent traveler, but bring your solar panels and stay up to six months during the winter or two weeks after April 1.
