For South Carlsbad State Beach: We stayed here for 2 weeks in early February, 2020 in our 28' long travel trailer. We had a nice, large site that backed up to a cliff overlooking the beach. View was spectacular. We didn't have any hook-ups as there are few sites that have them and they are very expensive - $100 per night, but two RV's are allowed for each site. Since we were traveling alone we selected an Ocean Site for $50 per night. Only downside was we had a generator stolen during the middle of the night. The thief easily cut through the security cable. From then on, we kept our other generator locked up in the back of our truck and had no further issues.

For South Carlsbad State Beach: We had beach front camping. Sites are various sizes. Some can fit big rigs and others can only fit very small trailers or tents. Views from the bluff are amazing. Beach had very little sand while we were there, but we were told there is more later in the year. Downsides- laundry was closed, concessions were closed, dump (regardless if you stay or not) is an expensive $15 (I’m accustomed to free if you stay or $10 at the most).

For South Carlsbad State Beach: Great beach, down stairs over a 75 foot cliff. Great view from the ocean side of the campground. Nice privacy between the large sites. No hook ups at most sites. Restrooms adequate with token operated showers. Train track very near, but mostly daytime passenger trains. Near Legoland.
