For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: This campground is right on the beach. Took my grand daughter for her spring break. We are going back in July. No internet or cable but I have a hot spot and booster that worked. We spent our days on the beach and nights around the fire. Great camp host. The park could use some updating but it’s on the beach. We always go to Toppers for pizza in Point Hueneme. Everyone was friendly. Some days we had the beach all to ourselves

Valuing Retreat

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: This military RV Park is right on the beach so there’s plenty of sand and no grass. If you call for reservations or just show up, be VERY specific what your needs are. I reserved a full hookup space for our 40’ Class A with a towed vehicle. First space we were assigned had no sewer hook up. Second space was right on the beach. Heard the crashing surf all night, that was great! When the temps get high (75+) the salt marsh mosquitos come out with a vengeance so be forewarned. This is a very unique location with the beach, seals, dolphins, ospreys, herons, egrets, etc. Price is $45 for RV. They offer cabins, yurts and a motel. If you’re looking for LOTS of fresh salt air, and a beach front camp, this is the place.

Chris

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: I arrived to search for a spot and there was a truck in the vacant spot that I chose to take. The truck owner kindly remove it when I asked. I then proceeded to park my camper and kids were immediately driving in their little electric buggy around my trailer between my truck and trailer with the space of about 1yard. Driving over my electric and water hose. I asked them to stop, they did. The other neighbour had a fire pit upwind from my rig. I asked him to move it and he kindly obliged. Another neighbour had blaring music which he wanted to let everybody listen to. The Wi-Fi has not worked for apparently for a long time. Sewer still has issues. These items I will submit to the camp host upon check out. Some spots provide a good view of the water and that’s why I give it two stars. At the moment, the campground; in spite of a great waterfront location, seems essentially unmanaged, not even poorly managed.

Rick

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: Great ocean views and sounds of pounding waves. Seals, dolphins many birds all over. $35 is great for location however, Many sites have non working electrical and more have closed off dumps. MWR claims they won’t repair because a big rehab is planned. Been saying this for over 2 years. Ice machine by restrooms broke, 8 out of 10 laundry machines broke. The really bad part is all the mosquitoes. The base can’t spray due to it being a bird sanctuary. No one stays out after dark they will drain you dry. Lots of homesteaders.

Melody

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: The camping area is adjacent to the beach as well as a preserved marine sanctuary and estuary. We saw dolphins and plovers in the ocean and seals basking on the creek side. The 50 amp sites were having sewer issues so we stayed in a 30 amp site. All the hookups worked fine. Sites differ in length so check them out first before selecting one. The first site we chose was too short. The second site was longer but also had open space behind us so we could back in right up to the bumpers. Although the laundry was free all the machines don't work right. The Wifi sucks. The sign in the office said sites are $30 but we were charged $35, which is high for a military campground.

Thor

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: I can't believe that I have never stayed here before even though I live locally. It's a great location, right on the beach and fairly inexpensive. There seems to be a lot of long term folks here as their rigs are set up for the duration.

I had heard that getting reservations here was difficult, however we came during the week and there were many open spots. I made reservations a week in advance.

As many have pointed out, there seems to be a lot of mosquitos about (however it is August).

There is a heat wave going through SoCal now but it's nice and cool here at Mugu. Morning marine layer and the highs are only in the mid 70's.

The base itself has limited amenities and the only place to eat on base is Subway. The is a small NEX that has your basic stuff. You need to go to Port Hueneme for standard military base amenities (20 minutes away).
