For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: Great ocean views and sounds of pounding waves. Seals, dolphins many birds all over. $35 is great for location however, Many sites have non working electrical and more have closed off dumps. MWR claims they won’t repair because a big rehab is planned. Been saying this for over 2 years. Ice machine by restrooms broke, 8 out of 10 laundry machines broke. The really bad part is all the mosquitoes. The base can’t spray due to it being a bird sanctuary. No one stays out after dark they will drain you dry. Lots of homesteaders.

Melody
For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: The camping area is adjacent to the beach as well as a preserved marine sanctuary and estuary. We saw dolphins and plovers in the ocean and seals basking on the creek side. The 50 amp sites were having sewer issues so we stayed in a 30 amp site. All the hookups worked fine. Sites differ in length so check them out first before selecting one. The first site we chose was too short. The second site was longer but also had open space behind us so we could back in right up to the bumpers. Although the laundry was free all the machines don't work right. The Wifi sucks. The sign in the office said sites are $30 but we were charged $35, which is high for a military campground.

Thor
For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: I can't believe that I have never stayed here before even though I live locally. It's a great location, right on the beach and fairly inexpensive. There seems to be a lot of long term folks here as their rigs are set up for the duration.
I had heard that getting reservations here was difficult, however we came during the week and there were many open spots. I made reservations a week in advance.
As many have pointed out, there seems to be a lot of mosquitos about (however it is August).
There is a heat wave going through SoCal now but it's nice and cool here at Mugu. Morning marine layer and the highs are only in the mid 70's.
The base itself has limited amenities and the only place to eat on base is Subway. The is a small NEX that has your basic stuff. You need to go to Port Hueneme for standard military base amenities (20 minutes away).

Chandalen
For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: The 30 day camping policy only applies to new arrivals. The 'locals' get to stay as long as they want, even if that means a new arrival must leave after 7 days due to a filled camp. The 'locals' dont even have to put the check in/out paper on their campers like the new arrivals do.
Thats my only negitave about this place. The beach is semi private and South facing so no real major waves. We saw seals and dolphins pass by every day.
The mosquitos are not anything more than I would expect whike camping.
It would be great if the homesteaders would be kicked off and forced to wait 7 days as is policy.

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: Spent Christmas 2014 here. Campground has an amazing beach, with amazing view! I can't wait to go back when it's Warner. Shower/ bathrooms were clean. Only negative was the high winds at times coming off the water shook the coach and woke me up a few times.

For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: Clean, well maintained, great location, nice facilities. What is not to like. The kids had a great time on the beach adjacent to the campground while mom and dad relaxed watching the waves. One thing to keep in mind is if the forecast calls for wind, look out. The surrounding hills create a funnel through this area when the winds are up, so if you have a small trailer make sure you are in a spot which is not broadside to the winds..... Enjoy this place... We did!

Wendy
For Point Mugu Recreation Facility: Excellent facility! Right on the beach, clean showers, full hook-ups, easy to park, and family friendly. Internet worked well, but as anywhere don't rely on someone else, come prepared with your own mifi or other Internet connection if you work requires Internet! The free laundry services were an added bonus as we washed all our linens before heading home so that the RV was completely ready for the next trip. I highly recommend a water pressure device as the water pressure here is intense.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, the camp hosts were friendly and helpful, and the view of the ocean is unbelievable.
We sat and watch a seal play in the water and three minutes later watched a school of dolphins swim by. Bring your sun screen and an attitude of appreciation for this amazing place rather than an attitude of expectation and demanding. This facility is not a right but an amazing gift earned through hard work of our military; I am thankful for every year of my hubby's 20+ years of service that have allowed us to stay in stunning low cost places like this!
