For O Neill Regional Park: A beautiful oasis in the north end of the high density residential/retail/commercial city of Rancho Santa Margarita. Easy access from I-5 makes it a great base camp for exploration of the Los Angeles area. The park is in excellent condition, with newly paved streets and fresh, clean bathrooms with showers. Operated by Orange county, with a staff that are the most courteous, friendly and helpful people we have found anywhere in our travels.
Lots of pull-thru sites, and many back-ins that will accommodate larger RVs. There are no campsite specific hookups, but many fresh water spigots are strategically located throughout the campground. A single dump station is located within the park. POWER IS NOT AVAILABLE. Most sites have lots of tree cover, so don't count on getting much solar, but generators are allowed during the day. Each camp site has a fire ring and picnic table.(All firewood must be purchased inside the camp)
The campground is just part of a vast recreation area of 4500 acres. There are many trails and bike paths to explore, and at least one really nice playground for children under 5. A Nature Center is also located in the park.
For those that travel with horses, there is an equestrian camp area complete with horse corrals. Many of the park trails allow horses.
14 day stay limit
Fair Verizon and ATT cell service.
All this for only $20 per nite; $15 for seniors! (Dec-2019)

For O Neill Regional Park: This is a great park!!! However there are lots of rules and the rangers and host are on top of it! I mean no engine noise or party noise after hours posted. The host came to introduce himself the first day we arrived!!! This attention could be a downer for some or enjoyment to others. Showers were hot and adequate but drafty this winter.
Rangers were nice and polite and tried to help when they could.
We had to be evacuated to another park, 1 week into our 2 week stay from possible flash flooding. They were very helpful getting us to another spot and transferring the difference to one of the other OC parks. We definitely plan to come back and check out more of the trails and hikes in the area.

For O Neill Regional Park: Great park! Nice sites with lots of room. Showers/restrooms okay. Be sure to visit the nearby Tabacon General Store and the great local bluegrass band that plays Friday night. The only bad thing was we got infested with ants while on this site. Put comet around stabilizers and tires And that should prevent their entry. Come to think of it, do this at every campsite in Southern California.
