For Cottonwood Campground: Cottonwood campground and picnic area is one of the nicest public/BLM parks around. So clean and beautiful, right on Salmon river. A great place to camp, or for a pitstop or spend the day. Right on the river. Nice pavilion and fire pit . Cleanest and best decorated restrooms around!

For Cottonwood Campground: July 2020: One of the nicer Federal/BLM sites along the Salmon River between Stanley, ID and Salmon, ID. The road from the highway into the day use, boat ramp, and campground areas is all paved. There is a paved parking area just before reaching the day use area and boat ramp that is very prominently posted only for "Boat Trailer Parking-No Camping". This means that if your rig is longer than a passenger car/pickup/van/Class B RV, there is NO PARKING SPACE LONG ENOUGH FOR YOUR RIG to park in the Day Use Area, unless you want to block traffic to the boat ramp and campground, or choose to use several of the parking spaces all to yourself (which you might get away with off-season, but not most times). The day use area has a large, very nicely kept irrigated green mowed grass area, a toilets building and a covered group picnic pavilion. There is a "pet area" near the boat ramp, across the paved road from the day use area, with its own potable freshwater faucet and drinking fountain. The campground is generously shaded by tall cottonwood trees. The sites are spaced reasonably well. A camp host is on-site. The campground was full the day we visited, and looks to be very popular and occupied by longer-term users. Most rigs had 1 or 2 portable generators next to their RV with multiple fuel containers next to their generator(s). We didn't stay here, but imagined the generator noise and exhaust must be significant outside of the posted "quiet hours (10pm-7am). We visited here mostly to use the day use area and dump station. The day use fee is $5 or free to Federal pass holders. The dump station fee is NOT included in either the day use or camp site fees. The dump fee is an ADDITIONAL $10, or ADDITIONAL $5 for on-site campers and Federal Pass holders. A fee schedule, payment envelopes and payment drop box are located at the dump site. The dump site is between the highway and the boat trailer parking area. To access the dump site with the waste inlet on your driver's side, you must go past the dump station to the boat trailer parking lot and loop back up the entrance road to enter the small side loop road to the dump site. The paved road at the waste inlet is sloped slightly uphill, which may affect your ability to completely drain your waste tanks. The waste inlet is set below road level in a concrete pad. Non-potable rinse water is available from a fixed standpipe and hose at the waste inlet. Potable freshwater is available from a separate faucet with hose threads about 25 feet ahead of the waste inlet. The freshwater faucet is not spring-loaded or timed, so convenient to use. The entire dump site was very clean and well maintained, just like the entire day use and campground areas appeared.
