For Nerstrand Big Woods State Park: This is one of the smaller and less visited state parks. It is a jewel. The trails are well marked and maintained. It is especially popular with day-trippers. The campground is wooded but like most of Minnesota state parks, electric sites are not as large or private as those with no hookups. The tent sites have large pads with pea rock fill, something we would have enjoyed when we were renters. Our site, 49, was also very muddy. Mud and puddles were an issue everywhere especially because of recent heavy downpours. We definitely plan to return.
