For Rice Lake State Park: We enjoyed an overnight stay at Rice Lake. All of the sites were cozy and shaded. The bathrooms and showers were in decent shape, although the flush toilets could have been cleaner. Easy and beautiful trails to hike, especially around the lake. We had bug spray so mosquitoes were not an issue. Close to charming Owatonna, in case a run into town is necessary. We would stay there again for sure.

For Rice Lake State Park: I don't remember the exact price for the primitive camp site (no electricity), but I remember feeling ripped off. The camp site is right next to what I can only assume is the birthplace of all mosquitos. It's a stagnant pond (lake, one of the 10,000?) found less than a stones throw from where you'll be killing them all night. The spots themselves have widow makers (dead branches), and snags (dead standing trees) occupying the space around and above them, so bring a helmet and a whistle, lest you get your head broke open like a melon, and lose your ability to call for help. Apparently the night before found some of these falling onto the camp grounds from a wind storm (not the first I'm guessing), yet they remain.
