For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: Campground Name: Forest Lake RV & Camping Resort Location: Advance, NC Overall Campground Rating (1-5): 4 Maneuverability*: Around the park was fine but getting in our site was somewhat difficult due to ditches on the sides of the road we needed to avoid while swinging our trailer in. Campground Notes: We were there over Halloween and they had a lot of nice events: scavenger hunt, crafts, and a trunk-or-treat. Site #: C16 Site Rating (1-5): 2 Site Notes: C16 is a long site but very uneven; our trailer tongue was almost on the ground to get level. Sewer connections are not threaded and our neighbor was not using a donut and their connection was only a few feet from our door and smelled frequently. It was nice to be up on a hill as we were hit by tropical storm Zeta and we were high and dry. The Yadkin River rose over 20 feet, flooding the primitive camping area and threatening the lowest spots on the E loop. Amenity Rating (1-5): 4 Amenity Notes: The playground there is very nice. There is an indoor arcade and café that were open but we didn’t try them. There are two pools and hot tubs but were closed for the season when we were there. There is also a lake with a beach for swimming. Laundry was nice, cheap, but small – three washers but only 2 working dryers. Mini-golf was not in great shape as is typical with most Thousand Trails. Reason for camping here: Recommended by other campers and on our way down south for the winter. Miscellaneous Notes: Nearby activities we went to were Boone’s cave which was a nice, short hike, Tanglewood Park which was beautiful and had some fun mountain and paved bike trails, and the Dinosaur Playground in Washington Park which was a lot of fun for Zach and his friend we met at the campground, Izzy. Lots of grocery options in Mocksville or Lexington. Dates Stayed: 10/25/2020 - 11/8/2020 Price Paid: $0, with Thousand Trails membership Weather: Tropical storm Zeta hit us while were staying there but generally the weather was nice, in the low 70s during the day and the 40s at night Verizon Cell Quality**: Very good Verizon; averaged 37.4 Mb/s down and 13.4 Mb/s up. Tried the campground Wi-Fi and only got .68 Mb/s down and 2.38 Mb/s up. Mail: Campground charges $5/package for mail so we used an Amazon locker in Mocksville, NC. Fellow campers also had success using General Delivery to the USPS in Mocksville. * For reference we are pulling a 33’ long Jayco travel trailer with a 2016 F350 Crew Cab Short Bed 4x4 which is 22’ with hitch giving us a total length of 55’. **For reference we have two Google Pixel 2 XL on Verizon ‘Play More” unlimited data plans. For data we have an Inseego 8800L on Verizon’s expired prepaid unlimited hotspot plan. In areas of low signal we use a Netgear 6000450 MIMO antenna. Measurements are taken using the “Multi” test on Speedtest by Ookla. A review by sdplusztravels, a fulltime family of three living on the road in a RV. For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: We stayed at this campground twice over a 4 week period. Our first site was C68. It was unlevel, cramped and lacked shade. Our second site was A33 and it was much better. Lots of shade, much more space and very level. Our neighbors were also quite friendly. The C loop bathroom was dirty, whereas the A loop bathroom was clean and well-maintained. This park has a large scenic lake and nice little beach area. The onsite restaurant was good and we particularly enjoyed the bacon cheeseburger. Sad to say that the kitchen staff was not wearing masks though. No wifi at the sites but my AT&T cell phone had 3 bars and the hotspot worked ok. The clubhouse had reduced hours due to Covid-19. Close to shopping and groceries in Lexington.

Wayne

For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: Stayed one night 40’class A with toad. When we made the reservation was told we would be met by a Ranger to lead us to our site. When we arrived the girl at the desk said no Ranger so you will have to find your site. She gave us a map said we need to back in, not a problem, unhooked toad and proceeded to try and find site. Roads are unmarked just a dirt trail have to find our way by stopping and checking the numbers on electric panel. Found the site. If it was possible to back in which it was, the electric would be unreachable. Called the desk after a prolonged wait was given another site that they said was located at the other end of the park. After driving around trying to ascertain which street we were on we located the site. A very tricky to back into site that was so un level the front wheels of the coach were off the ground. We were directly across from the shower, restroom building but the men’s side is locked with an out of order sign. A poorly maintained and managed facility and they want to sell a membership. Never again

Kelli

For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: Decent Stay. Gated community with roving security. Small, Partially level lots, with electric, water and sewer hookups. Lots were right on the street with some shade but no privacy. Campground was well maintained with lots of activities (two pools, hot tub, put put golf, arcade, corn hole, lake with canoes, playground, and restaurant). Bath houses were not convenient, so we didn’t bother. Four bath houses for 102 lots on 44 acres. Only three trails. Lots of full time residents with lots of golf carts. Staff was not the most helpful, and the store had no water or firewood. Fire pits were not cleaned in between guests. Our firepit was actually a tire rim that was full of cigarette butts and boxes. Limit of six people per site.

Margarita

For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: We stayed two nights, our site seemed like it was on the extended stay side. Looked more like a trailer park than a campground. We explored the rest of the park, seemed like the other side was nicer. The entrance was nicely done, wish the rest of the park was like that. GOOD-Quite, big campground BAD-Awful smell coming in the park, like a rotting dead animal. Dog crap everywhere, No cable. Muddy especially where you park your vehicle. Again looked more like a trailer park than a campground.

For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: November 2018. Passing through, only stayed one night. Lots of friendly residents. Site was pretty uneven, had to use all our blocks.

Ralph

For Forest Lake RV and Camping Resort: First time here. A nice park. Two swimming pools and a hot tub. But I was here in November and the pools were closed. Bet it is busy in the summer time. For sure, I will come back.
