For Mel Rieman Rec Area: Pretty campground, but sites are small. We have a 36' Class A motorhome towing a vehicle and we barely fit in the site and many were smaller yet. Many sites not real level. No lake access at campground, but boat landing about 1/4 mile away. 15 sites have electric, no water or sewer at any site, but dump station and drinking water are available at central location.

For Mel Rieman Rec Area: Great area for smaller RV's, we have a 40' motorhome and found the roads were to windy and narrow. Our site was very uneven so we had to adjust a couple of times to fit. I loved the area, just not for us with the length of our rig. Our RV Garmin did not bring us in by the signs so we ended up going into the dam area first, big mistake, we had to disconnect our tow in order to turn around and even the turn around was a little scary. The lake area is public and there is no access from the campgrounds. Our grandson went swimming in the swim area and seemed to enjoy it. The ice cream shop had some good ice cream.

For Mel Rieman Rec Area: Good average COE campground. Most sites are not too level, it was fine for our 5th wheel maybe not so good for a large motorhome. Two showers and two pit toilets. Dump station is fairly new. Quiet crowd even over July 4th. Lots of roadsigns point the way and County Road 19 is well marked. It is probably called River Road on your GPS. No lake access from the campground, it's 1/4 mile down the road.

For Mel Rieman Rec Area: The directions to Mel Rieman are wrong. After a 525mile trip we wasted another 50 miles trying to find “County Road 19†in Valley City. It does not exist on any map or street sign. Also Main Street was closed and the detour was crazy long. 6/27/2018. You’ll need a good on line map to find the actual route from Valley City that shows Main Street to 5th Av NE. That road changes names 3 times. It ends at 26th St SE which is a left on to it from 118th Av or West turn and connects to River Road to the site entrance.
If arriving from the West on I94 take exit 283 and head North on SR1. Its about 15 miles and you’ll see the signage for the East turn off SR1 as well as signs to campground. We found the campground clean and maintained like most COE sites.
Also I was fooled by the reservation picture for site 14. I looks like lake front but is cow pasture front. Please fix this picture.
