For James Canyon Campground: Beautiful drive on 82 from Alamogordo to Artesia - steep but doable. Campground is actually 2 small RV sites and then across a walking bridge are 4 tent sites. We had no trouble getting our 22’ trailer in - enjoyed a quiet night as traffic nonexistent at night. Elevation is 6800’. Bathrooms were locked when we were here, 10/24/18, so probably only open seasonally. No water. Trash cans available

For James Canyon Campground: This was the perfect stop over campsite for us between Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Monument. Quiet campsite, right off the road on our route. Creek was dry, but still a lovely spot. No running water. Pit toilets. Loved the cooler mountain temps since we were there in July. Would recommend!

For James Canyon Campground: James Canyon Campground NM
6 campsites, 4 are tents only and 2 are good for RV's. One up to 20' the other good for 26' RV. Every site has a Picknick table and fire ring. Primitive, no hookup, but there is an outhouse and a trash can( restricted and bear proof).
Very quiet and just gorgeous place.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention it's FREE
