For Mesa Campground: As per “ James Keller,†Gila National Forest Service has CLOSED THE DUMP STATIONS nearby. Downrated to 2 stars because camphost was MIA, no trash bin available to campers, and pay station had sign on it to take payment to the campground we’d already passed. We did so on next day as we were leaving Gila Cliff Dwellings NP.
Decided to take 152 over Emory Pass 8228’ because it was a good weather day, but it was much windier road than our AAA paper map shows. We we’re driving a 1-ton truck w cabover camper, no problems but slow and curvy road. Also recommend following road recommendations in Gila NP of using Hwy 35 if over 20’ length.
***No cell reception in most of Gila Mountain territory so be sure you have a downloaded map or paper.***

For Mesa Campground: The bathrooms were very clean. Thanks to a very hard working camp host who I saw cleaning and checking them at least 2 times a day. Sites were level and well maintained. Dump station was closed due to costs to NMPWD. Electric and water worked well at our site. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the quiet hours were not enforced and they allowed too many RVs to crowd into what was intended to be tent sites. This was a major holiday weekend with Lake Roberts hosting a huge free fishing day June 1st. I will return but not on such a busy time for them.

For Mesa Campground: The Gila National Forest Service has CLOSED THE DUMP STATIONS at Mesa and Gila Clift Dwelling campgrounds in early July, 2018.
I talked with Amy the area supervisor and was told it was costing too much to pump out the holding tanks BUT I’m sure that the forest service is still paying to have the area vault toilets pumped out. My suggestion is that they charge to dump. The closest dump station is Mountain Spirits RV Park in Mimbres, NM which is approximately 21 miles south of Mesa Campground. I suggest that everyone call or write to Gila National Forest and ask them to reopen these Dump Stations. Area supervisor is Amy at 575-536-2250. Good luck.

For Mesa Campground: Good place to camp with plenty of space between sites with hook ups and a dump station. Lake is near by and is great fishing.
