For Sunset Bay State Park: This is a superb campground. You do not feel like you’re on top of one another; the sites are very private. The beach is a quick walk where kids can play dogs can be run, and couples can stroll. It is a beautiful campground with a lot going on and we would stay here again. PS: we saw some huge rigs that got into sites.

For Sunset Bay State Park: Beautiful wooded setting, very tight for larger rigs. Zero ATT or Tmobile cell.

For Sunset Bay State Park: This park is located in a beautiful section of the Pacific Coast with close access to several beaches and parks. The drawbacks include small, cramped sites—really challenging for larger rigs, and a terrible route if you’re coming from the south on HWY 42/101. Map apps will tell you to turn on Shinglehouse Rd, but trust me, take the longer route through Coos Bay and follow the signs for State Parks. It’s worth the effort to get there, just be careful to choose a site that will accommodate your rig.

For Sunset Bay State Park: We spent a week in mid-September at Sunset Bay in a 37’ motorhome at a full hook-up site. This is a lovely older park. This is our third time staying at SBSP and the reason is the bay. The bay is horseshoe shaped with the side open to the sea blocked by a reef so that there are no significant breakers rolling onshore. We were able to take our Sea Eagle inflatable kayak far out into the bay. On previous trips we have seen people paddle boarding and kids using pool floaties in the ocean with no danger of being swept away by dangerous currents. The north side of the bay has amazing rock formations and tide pools that our grandkids love. If you go out near the reef where the ocean floor drops off, you can fish and crab. Shore Acres State Park and the seals and sea lions at Cape Arago are also must sees, especially for the photographer. The negatives of SBSP are that, if your RV is larger, be careful to choose a space that it can be shoehorned into. Sites are small and ours barely fit a small tent in addition to the MH. Some require a right angle turn to back in. Our canopy was close enough to the fire that an ember melted a small hole in it. The park has no significant bike trails but you can bike to Shore Acres and Cape Arago. Also, cell service is non-existent. We found we could get a weak Verizon signal sometimes at the beach. There are several small convenience stores at the nearest town, Charleston, but prepare to bring everything with you as Coos Bay is about 12 miles away.

For Sunset Bay State Park: Rv site was okay. The asphalt at the back was badly damaged and I could not back all the way in. Full hookups worked as expected. I didn’t like the general feel of this park. It didn’t feel as safe as some others. There was no permanent staff at the entrance. People arrived very late and were up and noisy very early. The trail to the beach was nice.

For Sunset Bay State Park: Our second stay at Sunset Bay. Love the location and all the activities. Great for kids. Lots of trails to walk and geocaches too. Beach is pretty great for coastal destinations. Quite sheltered for smaller kids. A little residual swell comes in the bay for low key body surfing and kayak/paddle board fun. Campsite is clean and quite. Very little to no mozzies when we were there in August. Not sure about the rest of the year. Thanks to all the volunteers too.

For Sunset Bay State Park: Feels and looks nice, friendly staff and beautiful lagoon. Unfortunately there's only one night limit for walk-ins, very tight drives and sites, no cell phone reception at all. Left without stay.
