For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Price was good at 22.00 per night for 30 amp FHU and location was good with water views and access. Check in on the 4th of July was open. Check in was at the door next to MWR by the commissary. If after hours there is a blue covered awning that will have your information. Came into the base from main gate only a very slight serpentine but easy for our 26 ft tow behind.
We were in 71 B. This site we had to pull in backwards and drive thru open grass area in order to have the hookups on our backside otherwise if backing into site hookup would be on our door side. I saw a few other sites that were set up backwards too, not all but a few weird layed out sites.
No AC in bathhouse or laundry, but laundry is free. Women’s shower very old and low pressure. Men’s has ok pressure but not the best showers. Lots of stickers/thorns in the grass. Looks like a nice outdoor pool close by but we didn’t use it.
No mice but did see ant hills and prairie dogs(I think that’s what they were popping out of holes in the ground). Sprayed RV well nothing got inside. We normally bring a grass trimmer and cut before we park but we forgot to bring it. Some taller grass around some sites, but they were cutting grass as we were leaving and it had been over a holiday and rained recently, but we won’t forget to bring string trimmer next time.
Good areas to fish close by.

For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Park is dated but location is nice. We birdwatching and after a recent rain the grass areas were a host of activity.
PROs: free laundry. Machines clean and didn’t eat socks.
CONs: we had a really small 30A site (#73) stepped down into briared grass, next to sewer drain. Picnic table on opposite side but wouldn’t use it surrounded by fire ants. Essentially we would come out every day, get thorned, trip on our sewage. Lots of open sites that had all hookups on the correct side, why they gave us this tiny backwards site with power water on one side, sewage on the other, for a week is beyond me.
Other reviews accurate, mosquitoes can be bad if not windy, WiFi was out, roads stink, but advertised for repair this year 2025 if MWR funding holds (doubtful). Bathroom in community center nicer than shower, but had a pet brown widow keeping me company in the shower stall. Felt dirtier after a Shower than before.

For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Ignore any previous comments on roads. They are fine for the short distance you’ll be on them. Never saw a mosquito in a week but I’m sure, like everywhere else, they have a season.
This is just an awesome site, quiet, close enough to salt water that you can smell it at times. It seems like a popular place and rightly so.

Steffanie
For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: My husband and I are snowbirds from Indiana. This is the third year going south for the winters and our third different military rv park. CCNAS PROS- free laundry usage, great food at the cantina, commissary is open 7 days a week. CCNAS CONS- roads are horrible, will be eaten alive by mosquitoes, sand thistles are everywhere (our poor yorkie could not step on the grass without being covered in briers), could not set satellite in grass to get service (nothing in grass. Its only December 4 and we had to remove all our air-blown decorations), very impersonal compared to other military campgrounds-no gatherings/get togethers. We reserved for 3 months but will be leaving at the end on the first month.

For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Outstanding campground overall.
Pros: Wonderful location, concrete pads leveled, FCU, sites are big, great views of the water, and very quiet.
Cons: Only one the road coming into the campground has a lot of potholes. But this would not stop me from returning.
Make sure you check in at the MWR building located at 4008 Skyray Drive before going to the campground.

For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: The roads in the rv park are beyond trash, the showers are beyond antiquated as well. The gowifi is spotty as best and completely nonfunctional at worst. The base closes down early so if you need gas or supply’s ensure you go early.

Ray Wood
For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: I would have given them a 5 star but the bathroom facilities were poor. Two shower stalls but no privacy. Two out of the 4 washers were broken. We stayed in loop A, site 88.

For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Stayed in loop B: full hookups on concrete pads. Loop A seems older and is mostly on grass. Bathrooms and laundry in loop B, but did not use. No shade, right on the bay. Good Verizon cell service and over-the-air TV. Made reservation by phone and got an email confirmation that indicated the loop, but not the site number and no instructions what to do on arrival. So my recommendations: come through main gate and keep going straight on that road (Lexington). Our map told us to turn right, which worked, but roads were smaller and had more potholes. At end of road, take a right. Follow that road until close to the end. There you will see a sign for the “RV campsite registration officeâ€. Office is open until 5 PM, see the camp host if arriving after hours. Sign paperwork, get the site number, set up and enjoy.

Dean
For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: Level, inexpensive and right on the water. Great park with friendly, helpful staff. Wind is constant...but you wanted to be at the beach. Restricted to military in fall/winter but they open up availability to civilians in the warmer months.
We’ll definitely return.

Duane
For Shields Park NAS Recreation Site: This campground is right on the bay. There is an A and B side. A side is small with about 27 spots. Grass and gravel spots which are pretty level. Some of them are pull thru on the grass because in front is the street curb. Has free laundry with TV and restroom but no showers. Some of these spots are about 200 feet from the water. B side is farther away but is the main area. Showers and laundry also with water surrounding 3 sides of the campground. The B area has concrete pads. It appears all areas have FHU. Commissary is a long walk away but doable. The campground is pretty much removed from the rest of the base. The staff was friendly and worked the schedule that we could stay in the same spot. No camp store. Plenty of over the air TV channels. They do take reservations and sites were $20 per night. Would definitely stay here again.
