For Fort Townsend State Park: As noted by previous reviewers this is a good alternative if the campgrounds at Fort Worden State Park are full. Be aware though, it’s only open to overnight campers seasonally. Winter months allow day use only. The RV Dump is also only open seasonally, only when the campground is open. The dump site is only graveled so can be muddy even in summer. It is an old but functional facility. Rinse water is available at the waste inlet and a potable freshwater spigot is about 50 feet ahead of the waste inlet. As to previous reviewers comments about the smell from the nearby paper mill: Visitors and newcomers to Port Townsend often complain about the mill. Many (not all) longer term residents, and others who know the area’s history, understand that without the mill’s funding and creation of the water supply that it shares with the town, and the ongoing funding the mill provides to the local tax base and economy, Port Townsend would have never survived its total economic collapse in the early 20th century or even be a viable community today. Without the mill there would literally be no habitable city of Port Townsend because the town would have no water supply.

For Fort Townsend State Park: We stayed here two nights. Close location to Port Townsend when Fort Warden is full. Very forested with nice trail system and access to a small beach. The spaces are VERY tight, close together and small. We pull a 23 foot trailer and barely squeezed into our spot. Larger coaches had to turn around. Also, when the wind blows from the north the pulp mill stench is awful.

For Fort Townsend State Park: RV spots really narrow, 24 hours a day you hear and smell the Mill running, there are good hiking trails nearby and biking but only 6 miles long. There is some old military history here and you can hear the national anthem every morning at 8.

For Fort Townsend State Park: Nice and quiet state park. We had a 30 foot RV with plenty of room. They sell $5 bundles of wood. We walked the tent sites area that were stashed back in forest loop. Definitely would come back. Great for families.
