For Colonial Creek South Campground - North Cascades National Park: The campground loop on the lake side of the highway seems to be busier with vehicle traffic than the loops on the opposite side of the highway, for some reason. The sites throughout the campground vary greatly in size, privacy and flatness. The entire campground seems well maintained and managed, especially considering how many people are using it. Its greatest positive feature is its closeness to the many trailheads to the east on the highway, that give access to the stunning beauty of this area. The campground RV Dump is just past the check-in booth inside the campground entrance on the south side of the highway (on the opposite side from the lake side). There’s no fee to use the dump station. It’s on a short paved loop that can be accessed either when entering from the campground entrance, or when leaving from the nearby campground loops. The waste inlet is set below surrounding ground level in a concrete apron. Rinse water is provided. Potable freshwater is available at a clearly posted separate spigot about 100 feet away from the waste inlet. As of our visit (July 2019) the freshwater was surprisingly poor, tasting stale and almost so “rubbery†we checked our hose to make sure it wasn’t the problem. We tried the water from a faucet in one of the campground loops, thinking it might be better, but it was just as bad. This was especially puzzling to us, because the same day we had seen vast quantities of what is possibly some of the purest water on the continent literally pouring from the area’s mountains, glaciers and cascading streams. We took as much water as we needed to get to the next stop that we knew we could get better water. Next time through this area we will plan to get freshwater somewhere else if possible.

For Colonial Creek South Campground - North Cascades National Park: Convenient location - short drive to dams, North Cascade NP visitor center and many trails. Many campsites on lake, some require very short walk in. Pleasant camp host. Ample bathroom facilities and water spigots.
