For Darke County Fairgrounds: We had the campground mostly to ourselves (on a Monday night in April). Nice grassy campground with mature trees throughout. Electric and water hookups (although, note that the water is not turned on throughout the grounds, only in certain sectors—at this time of year anyway). We had a very enjoyable, peaceful night. There was harness racing training going on at the track that is on the grounds, which was fun to watch and we saw some beautiful horses. And it’s a short bike ride into the heart of Greenville. The old bathroom house was pretty gross and needs updating as well as a thorough cleaning. Maybe they open the newer looking restroom facility when the campground is busier. There are no picnic tables or campfire rings in this campground. There IS a dump station with fresh water access. There was no trash or recycling receptacle except for a small trash can near the equipment/animal sheds. For us, the wide expanse of grass and the peace and quiet made this a 4-star stay. If you’re looking for amenities, this is probably not for you.

For Darke County Fairgrounds: This was the first stop we made with our new-to-us Class A motorhome. We stayed for 12 days. Our grass site was shady and had water, electricity and sewer. There weren’t a lot of campers, so we had plenty of space and privacy. The spot was pretty level. The bathrooms were just OK. We didn’t use them much. The shower seemed pretty gross, but thanks to the full hookup, we didn’t need to use it. We enjoyed seeing the harness horses training and there was plenty of space for our dog to enjoy some off-leash exercise, away from the horses. There was a small supermarket just outside the gates, a laundromat across the street, and places to eat nearby. Downtown Greenville was an easy bike ride away. We have family in Greenville and enjoyed our extended stay. It was a great first stop for us and we will definitely stay again.
