For Santa Cruz - Carpinteria State Park: I’d give this a minus if I could. We used to camp here multiply times a year and based on our overnight stay in April 2022 I won’t come back. Foxtails, gopher holes and squirrels have destroyed all of the areas that should have vegetation. The park needs to manage the infestation. Our site was one of three that backed to the center section. We barely fit and had to dodge our neighbors pop-out. This section of the campground needs to be overhauled and reconfigured. At $51 a night (with a senior discount) if obvious the money isn’t going into maintenance. Very sad since the beach is incredible.

For Santa Cruz - Carpinteria State Park: Stayed here for one nigh on January 31, 2020. Location was great - right next to the beach, but no ocean views. Our site was very small and was located between two other sites with only about two feet of clearance on either side. Difficult to back into. Fortunately, there was only one camper next to us when we arrived which allowed us to back in with minimal difficulty. Wouldn't stay here again.

For Santa Cruz - Carpinteria State Park: A nice campground to use as a base to explore the surrounding area, including the nearby communities of Santa Barbara to the north and Ventura to the south. Park staff is friendly and the park is well maintained. The northern campsite area offers more trees between sites but is also not necessarily open year round (it’s subject to winter flooding). Sites in the southern area are mostly spacious but in general more exposed than in the northern area. The RV Dump site is well designed and maintained, and has both rinse and fresh water available. Several beach and walking trail options in and near the park. Downtown Carpenteria is within walking distance and offers all the usual shopping options including groceries, restaurants, and laundromat. Overall a nice choice for a campground in this area.
