Christmas

For Main - Farm Island SRA: The sunsets were great, nice view of the water, more wind than I'm used to so be sure you anchor things well, 103 yesterday so AC is helpful, down to 94 today, great bike trails, have a Lewis and Clark history building, lots of grass and rates for canoes and kayaks are excellent and a lot of space between sites. Sites don't have water or sewer so be sure to fill up and dump prior to setting up.

Caution. I'm used to having park entrance fee included with campsite fee, South Dakota and some neighboring states have an extra $6.00 a day for park access fee. If you are going to stay in very many South Dakota parks you might want to pay the yearly rate to save money. We were charged $20 for Custer state park that was good for a week we thought that was excessive for our one day visit. Custer state park told us we could pay $30 for a yearly pass but we didn't plan to return to Custer State Park. It would have been nice if they would have told us $10 more would have been for a yearly pass for all the South Dakota State Parks.

KathyEK

For Main - Farm Island SRA: Spent 2 lovely nights here. Water for swimming and water sports is very nice. Pierre locals come out for the weekend. The camp host rents kayaks, paddle boards, etc. Full hookups, lots of green grass everywhere even though it was late July. Just a great place to stay. There isn't a lot of shade, but the green green grass sort of helps out. Bathrooms and showers very clean and nice. Pierre people were so friendly! We rode our bikes along the waterfront and around a nature preserve island. Every time a car passed they would wave at us! So would walkers. Town is not much to speak of, was almost deserted on a Saturday afternoon. Rather strange.

For Main - Farm Island SRA: When we arrived without a reservation and got a nice river view site. Was a lovely place with huge sites. Not disappointed

South Dakota camper

For Main - Farm Island SRA: There are no bad state parks in South Dakota. This one ranks in the top though. We stayed here in late April 2016 and had a great waterfront campsite. This park is great for fishing hiking biking and just relaxing.
