For Sandy Point - Guernsey State Park: We stayed at Sandy Point campground August 30 to Sept 2, 2021 in a hybrid travel trailer. The campground itself is scenic with spacious sites and large cottonwood trees along the reservoir and bordering the sites. However, there are 2 sets of railroad tracks 100 yards from the southeast end of the campground. There are coal trains passing by nonstop throughout the entire night. These trains are over 120 cars long. In addition, the trains will frequently stop and idle for 15 to 45 minutes with the engines right at the campground, I assume to allow the track ahead to clear. This is then followed by the passage of usually two long trains. Sleeping is close to impossible here. Our hybrid trailer has two canvas ends for sleeping so there is little protection from outside sound. Perhaps the sound is less in an enclosed RV, but if you are in a tent or pop up trailer - be prepared for a very long night!

For Sandy Point - Guernsey State Park: We spent one night here but we are coming back later this year to spend a week. Sites without electricity are mostly in cottonwood trees and next to the water. Our site was close to the lake and had electricity and water but no trees. Camp sites are large with plenty of room (did see a walk-in tent site that would be good for a group like Boy Scouts but crowded for individual campers needing some space). As per the reviews on Sandy Beach, the railroad’s about 150 yards away but it wasn’t a problem even with the windows open in our Airstream. This is a underutilized state park in comparison to the mobs in Colofornia. Most visitors come from Cheyenne and Casper. Wyoming State Parks stick it to non-Wyoming visitors by not allowing them to purchase an annual pass and therefore it rates a 3.5.
