For Illiniwek Forest Preserve: Beautiful campground on the bank of the Mississippi River with sprawling grassy areas and large shade trees. Spots are a little tight but most are shaded and fairly level. Make sure to take a walk through the prairie reclamation project connected to the campground.

For Illiniwek Forest Preserve: Very narrow entrance road for two way traffic. No pull throughs. Back in spaces kind of short. Saw a couple maybe 40 foot class A's backed in and just fit with wheels on pavement. Areas off pavement very soft due to recent heavy rains. Class A's towing trailers don't bother. No spots will fit.

For Illiniwek Forest Preserve: This was an awesome campground. Right next to the Mississippi river, lots of hiking trails, biking trails, and picnic sites. A real local gem. Office is open in the evenings and has firewood and inexpensive ice cream for sale. Need to give a deposit for bathroom key, but they were nice bathrooms! We just stayed one night while passing through, but hope to come back. Because they don't take reservations, it might be hard to get in on summer weekends. There was a train track right by the campground, but we did not see or hear a train on that track. Heard another train occasionally, but it was further away and did not detract from the experience.

For Illiniwek Forest Preserve: Although I have not camped overnight here, I have used the park on numerous occasions for hiking and I frequently go through the area where the RVs and tent campers are located.
This campground and large forest preserve/park is VERY nice. The camping area is level and located along the Mississippi River. Some tent sites are located along the riverfront, but the RV sites are just inland (the river is visible and a very short walk away). There are numerous pavilions with picnic tables, a boat ramp, a baseball field, on-site office, and a nearby, large wooded Bluff area with deep ravines, a stream, and which has many well-maintained trails which are used for hiking and mountain-bicycling. The park is just downstream about a half mile from Lock and Dam 15. Immediately above and below the dam is an Army Corps of Engineers campground called Fishermans Corner (also a nice area). Fishing is very popular at both parks. Both parks are very popular with locals and travelers.
A level, paved bike trail (the Great River Trail) runs through both parks and along the River for many miles. Hampton is a small bed-room community with friendly people and almost no crime. There is a well-stocked hardware store, a very large convenience store/restaurant/gas station, a bank, bar and grills, etc..
