For Uncle Dick Davis Park: Local note: The south entrance road leading from the town of Henderson and crosses the Pontoon Bridge (Height restriction previously mentioned) is not an option any longer. They are replacing the historic drawbridge bridge and construction started in mid 2022 and will probably take 2 years. The only access is to exit Interstate 10 at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center, Exit Number 121, and drive about 6 miles south along the river to the community of Butte La Rose. Turn right at the intersection and it is about a mile on the right.

For Uncle Dick Davis Park: Located between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA just off I10.
The Dick Davis campground is actually a road side parking strip with a boat ramp. It’s designed for boaters but you don’t need a boat to use the sites. It is first come first serve. Call the caretaker the day before and he’ll let you know how busy it is. Obviously, weekends are prime and spots are scarce.
Located in a residential neighborhood, it’s a stretch of 10 maybe 12 paved spots that back up to the river. Each spot has a fire ring, water, electric and sewer hook ups. There are restrooms but no showers. The restrooms are fairly clean. There is a small playground at the end.
Some of the spots will accommodate a 40’ and some of the sites have 50amp service.
Verizon cell service was non existent but I was able to get internet and cell service with my ATT hotspot.
Not a place where you would want to stay unless you are passing through or want a base camp for exploring the area around and between Lafayette and Baton Rouge, without actually being in either town.
A great layover between Mississippi and The Texas haul. @$15 / $10 for seniors a night, (cash only) it’s a deal. There is a campground I visited a few miles closer to I10 called Cajun Heritage. Many more spaces(tight) , more facilities, propane, etc., but at $44 a night, I’d rather sleep at Uncle Dick’s. If you have kids that want to run around and play, Cajun Heritage might be a better choice.

For Uncle Dick Davis Park: I visited this site while staying at Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground. It is a little further from I-10 but offers full hookups for $15. Looked like a nice place to spend the night or two especially for the price. We spoke to a shop keeper near Frenchman’s that informed us that during the week it usually has a couple of spaces open. When we checked it out on a Wednesday afternoon that was certainly the case. Weekends and holidays very little chance of finding a spot but otherwise it’s worth the gamble. I only gave it four stars because I didn’t actually stay there but I was already in Frenchman’s when I went to look at it.

For Uncle Dick Davis Park: Quiet park Beside a stream. Full hook up a deal at $15 night. Seniors over 55 $10. Heed the warning and go from the Atchafalya rest stop if you are higher than 9’6. Limit 10 day stay. Someone stops by in the morning to collect your $$. No pull through. All back in sites, fairly level.

For Uncle Dick Davis Park: Great county park! Sites are concrete and have full hookups. Very nice playground for the kids. All sites back to the river. The bathrooms are old, but will do in a pinch! Only other drawback is that Verizon only has a 3 G signal.
****WARNING**** If you weigh more than 5 tons or are over 9'6" then you must exit on Route 3177 Atchafalaya River Hwy. which goes through Butte LaRose to Herman Dupuis Rd. There is a pontoon bridge coming in through Henderson Levee Rd.
