On the road again

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: This campsite has the POTENTIAL to be very nice, but that being said the best I can do is a 2 star and that is being generous! The majority of the tress surrounding the area have been cut down (and Appear to have been sold off). The landscape is ugly and scarred. The sites are narrow, no grass, dry and dusty. The fire pits are made of cement blocks and inconveniently placed. There are no picnic tables, but can’t imagine wanting to sit out anyway. The only thing the campground has going for it is that it can handle big rigs and has full hook-up. The price would be fair, if at had any amenities but as is we felt it was quite high and didn’t accept credit cards. The only reason we would be back would be out of necessity!

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: Best thing about 2 star reviews is you can be almost sure of a campsite. Yeah what some of the 1 star reviews said is true, it is rough looking and on a rough road behind a subdivision. No real grass and the sites could be cleaned up a little better, No Wifi but I am writing this review with 3 bars of Verizon LTE. I have a site that overlooks the woods and no one else with 3 sites next to me. Full hook ups and good power. $30 cash for the night. I would stay here again. BTW, Yes, there are working class folks here as long term residents, but they have all been friendly and quiet. You wanted to see America? Well those folks are also part of America.

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: Just Don’t Do It! One Star is too many - Zero Stars was not an option! We made a reservation with a Passport America discount $22.50 a night and when we arrived, they raised the rate to $35. We reminded them we have Passport America and the manager began telling us how much money they had to spend to open the park, new wells, new electric and said he felt $35 was a fair rate. We showed him the Passport America webpage and he waved his hand, laughed, and repeated $35 is a more than a fair rate. We then reminded him that the reservation was at $22.50, his reply was fine then $30 that is fair. He was rude and not willing to budge, treated us like we were crazy for wanting the rate we booked. We chose to leave but had to circle through the campground. The campground is a completely dirt field and only had 4 campers in sites one had the maintenance truck out front with piles of beer cans around the table and ground. The managers site has trash and things laying all over their site, one looked like it had been there forever and one other very nice class A. The rest of the 75 campsites were empty and this was 4th of July Weekend! There are no trees, no grass, the sites had some very long weeds, dirt with a few rocks! They are adding additional site too! When we pull off the road, we want the campground to be as expected at the rate we booked. We don’t play games we made the reservation based on an agreement Passport America had made with the campground the they will not honor the agreement!

Sandy

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: This is a new park not fancy. No grass or amenities that most RVers look for. Shower and restrooms clean. Bad road going in and mostly pipeline workers. We were there three nights and the workers are very quiet we didn’t even know when our neighbor came and went. It is mostly pipeline workers and not fancy but we felt safe there and found the owner to be very nice. Golf course right there couldn’t play weather did not permit. So if you are looking for that KOA this isn’t for you.

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: Was looking for a local campground to do an overnight to check the rig after several major handling upgrades and stopped by to check it out while in Marquette. I can affirm that this is more temporary housing then it is RV Park. The park was completely full and all of the 5th wheels were within 6 feet of each other. There is no landscaping. Only one class A in the entire park and that one was the owners and it was “FOR SALE”. If this is what you are looking for great, if not, invest your time somewhere else, Munising or Manistique. Both have lake side accommodations.

For Chocolay River RV and Campground: This is not a campground in the normal sense, this is a work camp parking lot for out of state pipeline workers. There is no grass, weeds growing up all over the place. Basically, it’s a large area that has been bulldozed, plumbed and recovered with gravel. RVs are packed in with very little room. The owner is onsite and has a sign up stating no refunds on monthly rates, what he really means is no refunds for anything ever period. No WiFi and no cell service ... water and electric for the majority of the sites. The road in goes through a subdivision at the end of which is a wash board dirt road. This “park” reminded us of a work release camp only with RVs instead of cells. We booked this place because there were no opening anywhere else. Upon arrival, we were told it was cash only (that way you can’t dispute the charge). We paid for 5 nights. We got to our spot and found no cell service and no WiFi. We parked and went looking for a different spot which we found in town. We returned, told the owner we had to leave as I needed cell service since I’m still working and he said fine but refused to refund a single penny. This park should be avoided at all costs!!! Unless you’re working the pipeline, stay away!!!
