Sheridan Inn Ghost Story
Once home to Buffalo Bill Cody, the Sheridan Inn remains the home for a ghost named Miss Kate Arnold. This historic inn, now closed for overnight sleeping as a National Historic Landmark, opened in 1893.
In 1901, Catherine Arnold, known as Miss Kate, came to Sheridan with her parents and began working and living at the Inn. She remained there for 64 years as desk clerk, housekeeper and hostess until the hotel closed in 1965. A plan to tear it down was stopped by a Save the Inn campaign and another buyer took over the inn and reopened it in 1967.
Miss Kate passed away in 1968 and her last request was to return to the Sheridan Inn. Her ashes were buried in the wall of the room that she occupied on the third floor.
Plans call for restoration and an eventual re-opening of twenty-plus rooms for guests. Miss Kate's room has been fully restored and legend says she continues to look over the Inn. She will turn lights on and off and open and close doors. Moving cold spots are felt in her third floor room. Reports include hearing footsteps throughout the inn. Another report had a window with a light on at 2a.m. when the place was closed and should have been empty.
