For Candy Hill Campground: Nicest Good Sam we’ve been to. Concrete level, spacious pull through site. Table, 4 chairs, 2 lounge chairs, grill with tools. Also fire pit with wood available to purchase. Clean (albeit outdated) bathroom. Large delightful swimming pool. Nice staff and owner. Grandkids loved the place (including Game Room). Close to lots in Winchester. Only downside is that’s it’s close to noisy Route 37, but easily “fixed” with white noise machine at night. Will definitely be back.

For Candy Hill Campground: Reasons why we will never be back. We made reservations for a one night stay in advance and I was charged $50. No site was assigned. When we checked in, I was told I had a balance of $20 plus tax, for a total of $79. I was not informed over the phone that the site would cost more than $50.   When we arrived to our site, we plugged our surge protector to the 50AMP service, and my surge protector indicated a fault on the “neutral connection.”  I then checked the 30AMP service on the same power pedestal and my surge protector showed no issues with the 30AMP power source. My surge protector is an all-in-one Hughes Autoformer/Surge Protector. Some campgrounds do not permit the use of a Hughes Autoformer/Surge Protector however, the literature from this campground was silent on its use.   When I called the office to report the fault at the 50AMP plug, the owner arrived to our site. He was clearly irritated. He was belligerent toward me for having my unit plugged into the 30AMP. He proceeded to physically disconnect the rig’s power cord from my Hughes. With my power cord in hand, he was about to plug my camper power cord - unprotected – directly into the same 50AMP post that was reading a fault.  I halted the owner mid-stream so that he would STOP from plugging my trailer power cord directly into that faulty 50AMP post. I repeated that the 50AMP service is throwing a fault at neutral; the 30AMP is not. The owner proceeded to take out his multimeter to “prove” to me that the service at the pole is “fine.” The owner did not identify himself as an electrician and I do not believe he is. This is the so-called “expert on electrical” at this campground.   I am not an electrician, nor do I pretend to be. That is why I purchased a device with indicator lights to warn me if the power at the pole can be trusted.   We have been camping for 28 years and have been full-time campers for over three years. This is the first time an owner of the campground ignored information I had obtained from my power protection and physically moved my power cord at the pole. Indeed, he was prepared to plug in my rig directly to shore power - unprotected - without my permission. Never in my years have I ever experienced a more asinine move.   The owner proceeded to tell me that the Hughes has been recalled. We called the manufacturer to confirm our Hughes has not been recalled. The owner then told me that my Hughes is illegal. Hughes Autoformers/surge protectors are not illegal. The owner then told me my Hughes was faulty. It is not; we successfully plugged into 50AMP at our overnight stay last night with no fault indicators.   I am deliberately omitting the owner’s comments that can be easily categorized as belligerent and misogynistic; we’ve all experienced unpleasant interactions with these types of individuals in our travels. (Examples: “Why are you plugged into 30AMPS??!” and “That’s not even the right name; it’s not a ‘snake;’ it’s called a power cord.”)   It is worth noting that when I arrived to check-in, the owner told me I was being placed in a “luxury” site. I did not ask for a luxury site; we are not “luxury” people.  The owner replied that that was the only site available.  There are half-dozen empty sites in this campground. I had a friend of mine call for a reservation; she was told there are five open sites for tonight – all large enough to accommodate our rig. After my experience with the owner and the faulty power pole, I have to wonder why the campground didn’t ask me in advance if I wanted the most expensive site on property. For those that are wondering … the definition of a luxury site: 1) closest to the highway, 2) a filthy grill, 3) mismatched, odd numbered patio furniture askew with bird droppings. I do not recommend this campground. I will never stay here again.

For Candy Hill Campground: We have stayed here in the past and chose it again for an overnight on our way t to NY. We had a very clean, level, concrete pad site. The staff was helpful and both the propane and the stay were fairly priced. We noticed this trip that they have the best inventory of camping supplies and miscellaneous needs of any campground store we have seen.

For Candy Hill Campground: I recently stayed at Candy Hill on my way North for the summer. I have stopped there for the last four years I have a dear friend in her 80’s that lives in the area and we get together have a cookout and catch up. My issue is that they charge $8.00 for a guest. Not 5 or 6 but $8.00. I just can’t get past the amount. I know campgrounds charge for guest because they might use the pool etc.I also know they don’t want to many guests which might turn into a loud party. Here’s my advice limit campers to 2 guests and stop taking advantage of your customers. I will not be coming back. This along with $5.00 for good internet $10.00 to hold a site number if you book on line. Shame on you!

For Candy Hill Campground: Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, checkin was a breeze, they offer LP service where they pick up your tank, fill it and return it to you. Happened so fast I couldn’t believe it! And they have their own chickens here that lay their own fresh eggs - $3/dz - couldn’t say no. Also have a couple mobile RV recommendations if that service is needed. We’re in E3, a concrete pad with full hookups. Near the highway, yes, but we wanted an easy on/off situation as part of a longer travel plan so the highway noise was expected and no big thing. Wish we were staying longer and probably will at some future date. The team here is really great - totally recommend!!

For Candy Hill Campground: Stayed here 2 nights (5-7 Oct) just to get our rig out and try some things out before our upcoming (longer) trip. Place was recommended by friends. The Good: we didn’t run into any of the “rude staff” others have mentioned - everyone was either friendly or polite to us. Our camping neighbors on either side were 2 spaces away (we were in site A-9.) All neighbors were also friendly. This is a dog friendly campground with a nice dog run. They have firewood for sale at a reasonable price and they bring it to your site (along with a metal fire ring). They do have play areas for kids, an arcade, a public bath with nice shower stalls for free use to campers, camp store with supplies and souvenirs, and a pool (which we obviously didn’t use). The park was well maintained. The not so good: if you’re looking for a quiet getaway, this place is not it - at least not in A loop. You are about 200 yards off route 37 and traffic barrels down that road at all times of the day and night and there are very few tree or obstacles to break the sound. Campsites in A loop are right on top of each other. Again, we were looking for a quick getaway and this scratched the itch. Would we go there again? Maybe, but only if we were in loop C (there’s a hill to block the sound from the road a bit), if we were going with other friends to hangout and go see some sights/catch a concert or something like that.

For Candy Hill Campground: This place is horrible, possibly the worst RV park I’ve ever stayed in! The owners and most of the staff are grumpy and rude (except for Eddie, he was the best and always very friendly to us.) They charge you for everything- every little thing! My mom wanted to come pick up her grandkids and they said she had to pay $6 to walk across the park to our RV to get them. We will never come back- I would avoid it at all costs if you can!
